20M Mark the SPOT for TV Guide

Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. said its TV Guide SPOT video-on-demand service has reached approximately 20 million subscribers nationwide since its launch one year ago.

The VOD service -- which has dedicated approximately 75% of its programming to original shows created specifically for on-demand viewers -- is carried by Comcast Corp., Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks, Insight Communications Co. Inc., Adelphia Communications Corp., Cox Communications Inc., Cablevision Systems Corp. and Charter Communications Inc.

“Our success in attracting both distribution partners and blue-chip advertisers validates TV Guide SPOT’s programming strategy and also indicates that the VOD platform is gaining traction with viewers,” TV Guide SPOT vice president Dmitri Ponomarev said in a prepared statement.
