Spike TV said nearly 2 million viewers tuned in its Ultimate Fight Night Live special and weekly series The Ultimate Fighter 2 Monday night.

The network said Ultimate Fight Night Live earned a 1.6 Nielsen Media Research household rating and was seen in 1.4 million homes. Spike added that the two-hour special posted a 2.1/1.1 million viewers for men 18-49 and a 2.6/670,000 for men 18-34, with total viewers two-plus reaching 1.9 million.

Then the weekly premiere episode of The Ultimate Fighter 2 earned a 1.3/1.2 million households, a 2.1/1.1 million in men 18-49 and a 2.8/718,000 for men 18-34, also attracting 1.9 million viewers two-plus.

“This is a sport on a rising curve,” Spike general manager Kevin Kay said in a prepared statement. “We set out to provide an action-packed night of programming, and our strategy worked in reaching male viewers.”
