News Corp.'s Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. is taking three of its
ventures under a new umbrella, with a new captain at the helm.
TV Guide Channel, the channel's interactive-TV version for digital-cable
households and international operations are moving into business together as TV
Guide Television Group.
The venture's president will be Ian Aaron, currently president and CEO of TVN
Entertainment Corp., one of the industry's largest video-on-demand-programming
Aaron will begin his TV Guide duties by the end of the month and report to
Gemstar-TV Guide CEO Jeff Shell.
He joined TVN three years ago after leading SoftNet Systems Inc., the
now-defunct high-speed Internet-access organization marketing ISP Channel. He'll
continue a TVN relationship as a board director.
Aaron's VOD knowledge will help TV Guide to "create, develop and distribute
best-in-class interactive-program-guide tools ... weaving together our video and
interactive capabilities into one comprehensive guidance offering to operators
and consumers," Shell said in a prepared statement.
"We are in a unique position to assist our cable and satellite distribution
and programming partners as they look to package hundreds of channels and
several-thousand hours of VOD content into a compelling experience for
subscribers," Aaron replied through his own prepared statement.
TV Guide Channel recently launched a makeover of its format, covering
modifications to the lower-half guide portion of the screen. New What's
On? segments and other features will be added this fall.
