ABC Family Lands ‘Potter’ Movies

ABC Family has acquired a slate of movies, a package that includes Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, that gives the network the first-position window for basic cable for all six Harry Potter films to date, officials said Friday.

ABC Family struck its deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, and the agreement also includes the Academy Award-winning film Happy Feet and Nancy Drew

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will premiere on ABC Family in 2010, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, due out in theaters worldwide in July 2009, will make its basic- cable debut on ABC Family in 2012.

Happy Feet will make its basic cable premiere on ABC Family in 2009. The film features the voices of Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Brittany Murphy, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Hugo Weaving and Anthony LaPaglia; boasts the tap dancing of Savion Glover and a Golden Globe-winning original song from Prince. It won  the Academy Award for Animated Feature Film.

Nancy Drew—starring Emma Roberts, Josh Flitter, Max Thieriot, Rachael Leigh Cook and Tate Donovan—will premiere on ABC Family in 2010.
