ABC Family has ordered new seasons of The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Make It or Break It.
ABC Family president Paul Lee said the network will bring back The Secret Life of the American Teenager for a third season this summer, while Make It or Break It sophomore run is also set for that time frame.
Focusing on the relationships between families and friends and how they deal with issues including teen pregnancy and motherhood, The Secret Life returned with a Nielsen boom on Jan. 4. The series' mid-season premiere became ABC Family's most-watched telecast of all time among viewers and females 12 to 34, teens and female teens. In addition, the installment ranks as the show's 2nd-most-watched episode among total viewers, trailing only the season two debut on June 22, 2009.
Set amidst the high-stakes world of competitive gymnastics, Make It or Break It also airs on Monday. Its rookie mid-season premiere on Jan. 4 vaulted to series highs among total viewers, adults and women 18 to 49, viewers and females 12 to 34, teens and female teens, according to network officials.
"We're thrilled to announce both The Secret Life of the American Teenager and Make It or Break It will be coming back this summer for new seasons," said Lee in a statement. "Both returned last week to record numbers -- our Millennial audience is just so passionate about these shows and has responded to both of these dramas in such a big way."
