Looking for a real-life The Osbournes, ABC Family has signed a deal
for My Life Is a Sitcom,a reality series that will conduct a
nationwide hunt for a real family to star in a comedy based on their own lives,
officials said Tuesday.
The network has ordered 13 episodes of the new primetime series, set to debut
in January, from Nash Entertainment.
Over the course of the show, its producers, writers and director, as well as
network executives, will travel across the country to find 'America's funniest
'Most people believe their own families are funnier than any sitcom family,'
ABC Family president Angela Shapiro said in a prepared statement. 'This show
puts that theory to the test. It's an entertaining journey that ends with
piloting one family in their own sitcom.'
After sifting through tapes from families who believe they are good material
for a sitcom, the producers will narrow the field to nine families. Then the
show's writers will fly to those candidates' hometowns to meet and observe the
families. Six families will be eliminated, with the group eventually narrowed to
three, then two.
