ABC Family to Split Up Kids

Burbank, Calif.— ABC Family and ABC Cable Networks Group will reorganize their ad-sales operation into two dedicated units: one that's focused on selling adult primetime programming and early-fringe teen fare, the other on children's shows.

ABC Family executive vice president of sales Laura Nathanson will oversee the adult/teen programming platforms; Kerry Sheldon Hughes will direct the children's programming unit.

Hughes, previously a senior account executive at UPN, has been named senior vice president of kids ad sales and marketing. She will be responsible for ABC Kids (the broadcast network's Saturday-morning block); Toon Disney; ABC Family's daily kids' action-and-adventure block; and presenting-sponsor opportunities on Disney Channel.

Barbara Bekkedahl, who was senior vice president of ad sales for Fox Family Channel and ABC Family for a time after the network was sold, left last year, an ABC Cable spokeswoman said.
