ABC News Streams To The Roku

ABC News has launched a streaming channel on Roku players and Roku-powered TV models, ABC News VP of digital Colby Smith said Monday in an announcement to the news division.

“Today is another big step in putting our audience in control of how and when they get their news,” Smith noted. “Roku users now have ABC News live video and on demand content, local news from several major markets and a wide range of historical video footage from ABC News’ archives. During breaking news and special events, Roku customers will have immediate access to multiple content streams, live 24/7.”

Roku has shipped more than 10 million players in the U.S.

ABC News has also developed apps for iOS and Android mobile devices, Kindle Fire tablets, the Xbox One and the Apple TV box.

ABC News also passed along some updated stats for its app, noting that ABC News has doubled its total live stream views since last year, and that Apple TV users spend 80% more time per visit on average via the Apple TV than laptops. Additionally, since debuting on the Apple TV in June 2014, 43% of total viewership of the “Now on ABC News” 24/7 live stream originates from Apple TV devices.

Smith also said the ABC News app had been extended to international audiences via the Apple TV on February 25.
