Adelphia Eyes Schleyer

Adelphia is reportedly considering AT&T Broadband CEO Bill Schleyer as a candidate for its permanent CEO post.

Sources said Schleyer moved up a few notches on Adelphia's list of candidates for a permanent CEO in recent weeks, after talks with past front-runner Rod Cornelius broke down.

"His [Cornelius'] name is no longer on the list," a source said.

Since the odds of signing Cornelius became less likely, sources said, Adelphia management turned attention to three possible alternatives: Schleyer; R&A Management CEO Kevin Allen and former MediaOne and Cox executive David Van Valkenburg.

But negotiations have not yet begun with Allen or Van Valkenburg, and talks with Schleyer have hit a snag over what title he would assume at Adelphia.

One source said Adelphia chairman and acting CEO Erkie Kailbourne was reluctant to give up the CEO title, and offered the COO post to Schleyer.

Schleyer reportedly was not interested in the COO title.
As of Friday, Schleyer and Adelphia execs declined to comment.
