Stamford, Conn. -- Adelphia Communications Corp. paid
roughly $213 million for Citizens Utilities' interest in a cable-television joint
venture in the Los Angeles area.
The deal was part of Adelphia's $5.2 billion
acquisition of Century Communications Corp.
Adelphia closed on the Century acquisition -- as well as on
its purchases of Harron Communications Corp. and FrontierVision Partners L.P. -- Oct. 1.
Adelphia acquired the Los Angeles market as part of its
acquisition of Century earlier this year. Century had operated the 772,000-subscriber Los
Angeles system as part of a joint venture with Tele-Communications Inc., now AT&T
Broadband & Internet Services.
With the Century, Harron and FrontierVision acquisitions,
Adelphia becomes the fifth-largest cable operator in the country, with about 5 million
