Adelphia Jurors Re-Examine Documents

Day one of jury deliberations in the federal fraud trial of four former Adelphia Communications Corp. executives ended Monday without a verdict, but with jurors requesting documents, many related to the case against former Adelphia chairman John Rigas.

John Rigas, his sons -- former Adelphia chief financial officer Timothy and former executive vice president of operations Michael -- and former assistant treasurer Michael Mulcahey have been charged with 23 counts of fraud and conspiracy. All four men have pleaded not guilty.

Jurors requested 17 government exhibits and 19 pages of transcripts, which they received from the court. Jurors are expected to continue deliberations Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Earlier in the day, the court dismissed one juror who had said previously that she had a scheduled family vacation in Cancun, Mexico, July 3. Another juror who had requested one day off after her brother died last week was also excused. They were replaced by two alternates -- one man and one woman.
