Adelphia Sued for Copyright Infringement

The Motion Picture Association of America said its member companies filed a lawsuit against Adelphia Communications Corp. for allegedly failing to pay royalties for retransmitting series and movies.

The suit, which lists several MPAA members as plaintiffs, was filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. It alleged that Adelphia is liable for copyright infringement because it failed to pay statutory license fees that were due Aug. 29.

Adelphia representatives didn’t immediately return a phone call Thursday afternoon.
