Akimbo to Ops: ‘Queue-and-View’

Akimbo Systems Monday introduced a way for cable subscribers to receive specialty videos via download on their digital-video-recorder-enabled set-tops.

The vendor said its “Queue-and-View” client-server system will allow operators to offer thousands of additional hours of video for specialty markets such as foreign language, home schooling, unique sports, film festivals and TV archives.

Operators can choose to deliver downloads directly from the Akimbo service with no new capital purchases, or they can send downloads from their own servers.

“Akimbo is a one-stop solution that allows cable companies to capitalize on the 'long tail' of specialty and archived media by delivering a broad collection of valuable video to their viewers without incorporating new costs or infrastructure,” Akimbo CEO Josh Goldman said in a prepared statement.
