Al Jazeera America will launch on several Time Warner Cable systems this Friday, according to a Time Warner Cable representative.
The startup news channel, which launched this past August, will initially debut on Time Warner Cable systems in several markets, including Los Angeles and New York, according to the representative, although it’s unclear exactly how many of the No. 2 MSO's systems will switch on the channel Dec. 6. The two parties reached a carriage agreement this past October.
The launch comes nearly a year after Al Jazeera Media struck a deal to buy Current TV. After the deal, Time Warner did not extend its carriage deal with Current TV to Al Jazeera America.
