Allen’s Six Foundations Become One

Charter Communications Inc. chairman Paul Allen is in consolidation mode, but employees of the MSO have nothing to fear.

Allen, one of the top 10 philanthropists in the nation, said Wednesday that he has formed The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, which is made up of The Allen Foundation for the Arts, The Paul G. Allen Charitable Foundation, The Paul G. Allen Foundation for Medical Research, The Paul G. Allen Forest Protection Foundation, The Allen Foundation for Music and The Paul G. Allen Virtual Education Foundation.

“This is a positive and exciting change that will bring additional clarity and value to our grant-making throughout the region," Family Foundation senior director Susan M. Coliton said in a prepared statement.

"Consolidating the six Paul G. Allen Foundations into a single entity will allow us to maintain the Allen family's substantial philanthropic commitment to the Pacific Northwest -- a commitment to improving lives, strengthening communities and supporting vulnerable populations,” she added. “At the same time, we are creating a more effective program that can do even more to serve our nonprofit partners and the community as a whole.”
