Alticast Reels In Carlucci As CTO

John Carlucci, a digital-video engineer previously with Clearleap and Time Warner Cable, has joined interactive TV software developer Alticast as chief technical officer of the Americas.

Carlucci most recently was CTO for Clearleap, which sells a Web-based video-on-demand solution to pay TV providers. Before that, he was co-founder and CTO of FreedTV Systems, a startup developing a system to integrate TV viewing with social networks.

At Time Warner Cable, he served as chief network architect where he worked on the MSO's Start Over service and switched digital video deployments. He also worked at PolyCipher, a conditional-access consortium owned by several MSOs, as vice president of engineering and held positions at BigBand Networks, Divicom/Harmonic and Sony.

"John has been a leader and visionary in the cable TV industry, from pioneering OCAP to IP and cloud technology," Alticast CEO David Housman said in a statement. "We believe John's experience along with his understanding of our customers' needs will assist Alticast in creating the next generation of products and technologies for the industry."

Alticast is based in Seoul, South Korea, with offices in Denver; Kronberg, Germany; Taipei, Taiwan; and Shenzen, China. The company, founded in 1999, sells solutions for digital TV, set-top boxes and middleware, Blu-ray Disc players and other devices.
