AMC is hoping to go three for three with its new drama pilot.
The new untitled project, starring James Badge Dale and Miranda Richardson, is a political thriller from Jason Horwitch, who penned FX telefilm The Pentagon Papers. Sopranos veteran Allen Coulter, who has directed multiple episodes of FX’s Damages, will direct the pilot, production on which is slated to begin next month.
Should the pilot go to series, it would give AMC a perfect mark with the process: Mad Men and Breaking Bad, whose second season is on tap for March, are the only other pilots the network has commissioned. Both have gained critical acclaim, culminating with Emmy Awards.
“This script is an iconic AMC project in that it combines great storytelling with a world that hasn't been explored on television before,” said Joel Stillerman, senior vice president of original programming, production and digital content for AMC, in a statement. “Think tanks are inherently mysterious places with murky agendas, and it’s a great setting for a show like this. Jason's understanding of the conspiracy thriller genre is evident in a plot reminiscent of some great films like Three Days of the Condor and The ParallaxView.”
