American Life TV will air the two-part finale of former NBC and PBS series I’ll Fly Away, which showcased stories from the civil-rights movement.
The episodes, slated for Sunday, July 3, and Sunday, July 10, at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT), are loosely based on the August 1955 murder of 14-year-old Emmett Louis Till, an African American teenager from Chicago who was said to have been murdered for whistling at a white woman in a grocery store in the Mississippi Delta. Sam Waterston and Regina Taylor co-star.
Till’s murder case recently made headlines again, when the U.S. Justice Department reopened the case and exhumed Till’s body seeking evidence that could implicate the remaining living suspects in his death. The two men who were tried for the crime originally were acquitted, but later confessed.
