Ameritech Gains 17th Ill. Franchise

Mount Prospect, Ill. -- Ameritech New Media picked up its
second cable franchise of 1999 last week, when it signed on to provide video service here.

Officials in the Chicago suburb of 21,600 households voted
unanimously to grant the video arm of Ameritech Corp. a 15-year franchise that will allow
it to compete with Tele-Communications Inc., the city's incumbent operator.

ANM spokesman Geoff Potter said the MSO already has systems
up and running in the neighboring communities of Arlington Heights, Des Plaines and
Prospect Heights.

Mount Prospect gives ANM franchises in 17 Illinois
communities, with a total population of 1.25 million.

News of ANM's latest franchise came one week after the
company agreed to a deal with the city of Urbancrest, Ohio, a tiny suburb of Columbus,
where 400 households and a population of 1,000 residents are currently served by Time
Warner Cable.

Overall, ANM now has 93 cable franchises in Michigan,
Illinois and Ohio.

The company signed up a total of 28 new franchises in 1998,
while launching its Americast service in 31 communities.

"We hope to launch at least that many this year,"
Potter said.
