Animal Planet went to the dogs last Saturday night -- at least to dog
lovers.

The network recorded its fourth-highest-rated telecast Feb. 2 with its
presentation of the AKC/Eukanuba American Dog Classic.

The canine competition averaged a 1.61 household rating from 8 p.m. to 11
p.m. that night, a 222 percent jump over the channel's 0.59 primetime average
during the first quarter to date, according to the network.

The event, held at the T.D. Waterhouse Centre in Orlando, Fla., also notched
a best-ever 1.01 rating among adults 18 through 49, Animal Planet's target
demographic.

All told, some 1.24 million households tuned into Animal Planet's
highest-rated dog show, fetching an average of 962,000 adult 18-through-49
viewers.

A replay of the event -- in which the top 20 dogs in various breeds competed
for 'best in show' the following afternoon -- produced a 0.99 household rating
and a 0.61 mark among adults 18 through 49, according to Animal Planet
officials.
