Animal Planet’s special on dragons Sunday night became the most-watched program in the network’s history.
Dragons: A Fantasy Made Real soared before some 3 million from 8 p.m.-9:30 p.m. March 20, earning a 2.0 household rating (1.74 million homes), according to Nielsen Media Research data.
Combining theory and scientific extrapolation with computer-generated animation and special effects, the special, narrated by Patrick Stewart, sought to bring dragons beyond their mythical state.
The half-hour making-of complement, Dragons: The Magic Behind the Scenes, recorded a 1.6 in the subsequent half-hour.
Among the network’s key demographic, the special posted a 1.3 adults 25-54 mark (1.31 million of those viewers), while the making-of show earned grabbed the attention of 1.12 million of those viewers, the second- and third-highest marks, respectively, for Animal Planet against that group.
