Another Dish Pirate Held In Contempt In Canada

A Canadian satellite-TV pirate was held in contempt of court in a case involving Dish Network and EchoStar Corp., along with their security partner NagraStar and Bell ExpressVu, officials said Thursday.

Jeremy Corkery, aka “NagraGuy,” was found to be in contempt of a court order made by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice Nov. 16 last year. The companies allege that Corkery was a well-known satellite piracy coder and the primary officer of Blue Screen Computer Services, based in Niagara Falls, Ontario.

The Nov. 16 order required Corkery to grant the companies access to a number of computer hard drives and electronic media in his possession for the purpose of copying and preserving evidence for the litigation.  Corkery refused to comply with the order by not allowing the companies access to the computer hard drives.

A judge held that Corkery deliberately interfered with the proper efforts of the companies to exercise the authority and receive the benefit of the court order. The sentencing hearing is pending.

This is the fifth time that a satellite-TV pirate in Canada has been held in contempt of orders obtained by the satellite companies in the Canadian Courts.  The four previous pirates were all sentenced to terms of imprisonment.
