America Online Inc. launched a new “AOL Hi-Q” video format on AOL.com (www.aol.com) Monday, which the company said will enable the viewing of DVD-quality videos.
AOL said Hi-Q relies on peer-to-peer technology it developed with Kontiki Inc. Web surfers need to download plug-in software in order to access the feature, which can be used in full-screen mode.
AOL said it has more than 100 AOL Hi-Q videos available for download. In January, the company plans to launch a new In2TV video service, which will offer Web surfers more than 300 classic TV series from Warner Bros.
