AOL Time Warner Inc. said Tuesday that it has no plans to spin off its
struggling America Online Inc. unit, Dow Jones reported.
The New York Times had fueled speculation with a report Tuesday that
cited two AOL Time Warner officials saying former AOL chairman Steve Case had
made private comments supporting a spinoff during the past two months.
Publicly, Case has defended the logic of the January 2000 merger between AOL
and Time Warner Inc.
AOL Time Warner spokesman Ed Adler said the company's strategy remains "to
turn around AOL and put it on a growth track."
AOL Time Warner has been consistent about its plans for AOL since its
turnaround plan for the unit was unveiled at a meeting with investors and
analysts in December, Adler added.
