AOL Time Warner Inc. chief operating officer Robert Pittman may be on the
outs.

According to a report in the The Wall Street Journal Friday, the company hired an executive-search firm -- Spencer Stuart
& Associates -- to recruit a new CEO for its America Online Inc. Internet
unit, which Pittman was put in charge of in April.

The Journal cited unnamed sources that said due to Pittman's failure
to turn around the online unit quickly, and because he is growing tired of the
pressures at AOL Time Warner, the possibility exists that he will leave the
company altogether.

AOL Time Warner spokeswoman Tricia Primrose
confirmed that the company has retained Spencer Stuart but said that move shouldn't come as a
surprise.

She noted that when Pittman took on the role with the AOL unit, it was 'an
interim position.'

Primrose said the search-firm hiring 'is completely
consistent with how we viewed this all along. Bob is and has been COO [of AOL
Time Warner] and, in that regard, nothing has changed.'
