Arbitron Inc. announced Wednesday that it and Nielsen Media Research are now
negotiating an amendment to their existing May 2000 agreement that would provide
for 'further research and development' of the former's 'Portable People Meter'
Prior to this announcement, the research giants had estimated that their
potential PPM joint venture 'at the earliest ... might have been formed by the
end of the fourth quarter of 2002.'
