Armstrong Picks Terayon ‘CherryPicker’

Armstrong Cable Services Inc. has deployed Terayon Communication Systems Inc.’s “DM 6400 Network CherryPicker” platform, the vendor said Tuesday.

The operator is using the CherryPicker to rate-shape and statistically remulitpex nationally delivered digital programming and locally encoded MPEG-2 (Moving Picture Expert Group) streams for distribution throughout its entire network.

Also, additional CherryPicker units have been deployed to enable Comcast Spotlight, which has an agreement with Armstrong to insert local ads on digital networks.

Armstrong, the country’s No. 18 MSO, provides cable-TV, telephone and high-speed-data services in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland.
