Arris-Nuera Team Up for VoIP

Arris Group Inc. announced an agreement to integrate, sell and support Nuera Communications Inc.'s carrier-class voice-over-Internet-protocol media gateways as part of Arris’ VoIP solutions for cable operators.

Arris said cable operators that have class-5 switches will be able to deploy a fully integrated VoIP solution using the PacketCable Line Control Signaling network architecture.

The product lineup would include Nuera’s "ORCA RDT-8" media gateway, Alopa Networks Inc.’s "Metaserv" provisioning system and Arris' "Cadant C4" cable-modem-termination system and "Touchstone" telephony modems.

"The relationship between Arris and Nuera will help cable operators to quickly and cost-effectively launch or expand their telephony-service offerings with a proven VoIP solution," Nuera chief financial officer Mike Rinehart said in a prepared statement.

In other Arris news, the company said Monday that it has deployed its 4 millionth "Cornerstone" cable-telephony "Voice Port."

The vendor began selling the Cornerstone constant-bit-rate Voice Ports in 1996.

"We are very proud of our leadership role in helping cable operators around the world to deliver primary-line telephony to their subscribers," Arris Broadband president Jim Lakin said in a prepared statement.
