Texas Instruments Inc. said Arris Group Inc. has designated the company as its preferred supplier for voice-over-Internet-protocol silicon chips and software for its Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification and EuroDOCSIS voice-enabled cable modems.
Arris will use TI's new “Puma IV” architecture in future modems and work on expanding applications, such as the inclusion of wireless decoders.
In other chip news, Microtune Inc. said Scientific-Atlanta Inc. is using the company's “MT2121” single-tuner chip inside S-A “Explorer 8300” set-tops.
The set-tops provide both HDTV and digital-video-recorder functionality, including multiroom-DVR capability.
Each set-top carries two Microtune chips.
