AT&T Jumps on VoIP Bandwagon

Now AT&T Corp. is getting into the voice-over-Internet-protocol act.

The telephony giant announced Thursday that it will offer VoIP service in the top 100 markets in the United States by the end of next year.

AT&T’s announcement follows a similar one Wednesday by Qwest Communications International Inc.

AT&T will be able to use its existing IP network, thus avoiding regional Bell operating company network-access fees, as well as taxes and regulations associated with traditional phone service.
