Media-services firm Avail-TVN has hired Margit Tritt, previously head of business development for EchoStar Technologies' U.S. cable business unit and a former CableLabs staffer, as director of technology.
In April 2012, EchoStar Technologies discontinued efforts to sell set-top boxes to U.S. cable operators, citing lack of sales traction.
Prior to EchoStar, Tritt was director of OpenCable program management at CableLabs from 2003 to 2007, where she managed the development of the tru2way hardware specifications, CableCard interfaces and testing, downloadable conditional access systems and the integration of OCAP software.
"Avail-TVN is always focused on innovation -- whether it is in the development of new digital video services, or in the technology that enables them," Avail-TVN chief technology officer Michael Kazmier said in a statement. "Our content and affiliate partners have come to expect technology excellence from us, and when we're able to add to the team with the level of experience Margit brings to the table, it's a win for everyone. She will use her experience at EchoStar and CableLabs to help our affiliate customers continue to monetize their video offerings."
Sherman Oaks, Calif.-based Avail-TVN claims to be the largest independent provider of digital video services in North America. The company says it distributes VOD and linear programming from "all the major studios and TV networks" to more than 250 pay-TV providers.
