Bankruptcy Court OKs Adelphia-Vermont Deal

Adelphia Communications Corp. will expand its service in Vermont by some 20,000 subscribers following the approval by a Federal Bankruptcy Court in New York of an agreement between the MSO and the state, AP reported.

The deal between the two parties, reached in November, must still be approved by the Vermont Public Service Board.

Adelphia and the state were at odds for years over areas the MSO had initially promised to serve but later said were too sparsely populated to be economically viable, AP said.

Upon PSB approval, the operator will invest $40 million to extend service by more than 1,250 miles, which will add 65 towns and expand broadband services to dozens of communities over the next several years, AP added.
