Baruch to Honor Avgiris

Baruch College said Comcast Cable executive vice president and chief financial officer Cathy Avgiris will receive the institution’s Distinguished Alumna Award at a gala dinner at New York’s  Pierre Hotel on April 22.

Avigiris, a 1980 graduate of Baruch, is a 22-year veteran of Comcast and was named EVP and CFO of the cable division in 2013. Prior to that appointment she served as executive vice president and general manager of communications and data services for Comcast’s Xfinity Internet, Xfinity Voice, and consumer wireless businesses. Under her leadership, Comcast has become the largest Internet service provider and one of the largest phone providers in the U.S. Avgiris also is responsible for launching the Verizon Wireless partnership, managing the operations for the company’s Internet Essentials program— which provides low-cost Internet service to low-income families— and overseeing Comcast’s WiFi initiative.

Avgiris will receive the award at the 26th Annual Bernard Baruch Dinner, an annual benefit  that supports the Baruch College Fund, which helps students by providing grants and scholarships, subsidizing professorships, improving facilities, upgrading technology and expanding service.
