Basic Cable Scores in First Three Weeks


New York -- Basic-cable ratings jumped by 16 percent in the
first three weeks of the broadcast networks' fall season.

Conversely, ratings for the "Big Four" broadcast
networks dropped by 7.3 percent, according to the Cabletelevision Advertising
Bureau's analysis of Nielsen Media Research reports.

Basic cable's ratings jumped from a 20 to a 23.2 for
the Sept. 21 through Oct. 11 time period, while NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox fell from a 36.9 to
a 24.2.

Cable's share (percent of sets in use) rose from 34
percent to 39 percent, and that of the broadcast networks fell from 62 percent to 57
