BBC America Rakes In BAFTAs

Stars of two BBC America shows -- The Office and State of Play -- won BAFTA awards, described as the British Emmy Awards, in London Sunday.

Bill Nighby won in the best-actor category for his role as newspaper editor Cameron Foster in State of Play, a political thriller that’s a new import to the U.S. channel (airing Sunday nights).

For the third year in a row, Ricky Gervais won the best-comedy-performance award, and the show he stars in and co-created won as best situation comedy. BBC America airs The Office Thursday nights.

Also, sketch show Little Britain won for best comedy program. It premieres on BBC America Sundays starting June 20.

In addition, State of Play writer Paul Abbott received “The Dennis Potter Award” and Coupling executive producer Beryl Vertue received “The Alan Clarke Award.”
