Capitol Broadcasting Co. Inc. has agreed to pay $10,000 to settle allegations that the company violated federal auction policies by disclosing bidding strategies in an article published in Broadcasting & Cable, a sister publication to Multichannel News.
A Capitol executive told the B&C reporter that the company was interested in bidding on video and data licenses that matched the geographic area of its television stations.
The article was published Jan. 5, nine days before the Federal Communications Commission auction started. After Capitol showed the FCC a copy of the article, the agency investigated to determine whether Capitol vice president John Greene violated its auction anti-collusion rule.
The FCC announced the settlement Friday. The terms stated that Capitol, based in Raleigh, N.C., did not admit nor deny liability.
