BellSouth Corp. added 134,000 digital-subscriber-line customers in the third quarter, its second-best quarter in history and a 21% increase over last year's third-quarter additions of 111,000.
The company had reported 156,000 and 120,000 DSL additions, respectively, in the first two quarters of 2004.
The company also reported 90,000 DirecTV Inc. customers, having launched a satellite-bundle offer during the third quarter.
Hurricane-related expenses and its wireless merger with Cingular Wireless curbed income from operations, which fell from $894 million a year ago to $852 million in the third quarter of 2004.
Revenue in the quarter reached $5.1 billion.
