More than 200,000 BellSouth Corp. customers have added DirecTV Inc. direct-broadcast satellite service to their packages, the regional Bell operating company said Wednesday.

BellSouth began offering DirecTV service in August, and the telco added almost 109,000 subscribers during the fourth quarter of 2004.

“This significant milestone is evidence that BellSouth customers are looking to bundle their communications and entertainment services with one provider," BellSouth president of consumer services Jan Funderburg said in a prepared statement.

DirecTV executive vice president of sales, distribution and business development Steve Cox added, “This milestone is evidence that DirecTV and BellSouth continue to exceed the communications and entertainment expectations of customers in BellSouth's service area.”
