`BET Honors' To Recognize Angelou, Wonder, Carey


Poet/Writer Maya Angelou, R&B music legend Stevie Wonder and Grammy-Award winning singer Mariah Carey will be recognized as part of BET's annual BET

The fifth annual special, which celebrates the lifetime contributions and exceptional service of individuals to African-American culture, will also honor Angelou for her contributions in Literary Arts, Wonder in the category of Music Arts and Carey in the Entertainer arena, according to network officials. The BET Honors will also recognize the heroic Tuskegee Airmen (Service) and inspirational coach and mentor Beverly Kearney (Education).

Past BET Honors winners include Cicely Tyson,
Jamie Foxx, Iman, Herbie Hancock, Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah and Sean
"Diddy" Combs.

Actress Gabrielle Union will host the BET Honors, which will take place at the Warner Theater in Washington D. C. The special will air sometime during 1st quarter 2012, network officials said.
