BET Jazz and MTV India are going on tour in Mumbai and New Delhi, India.
The two Viacom Inc.-owned networks -- along with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and the U.S. Department of State -- announced plans Tuesday for the 2005 India Jazz and Heritage Tour, to be held Jan. 12-20.
American jazz artists scheduled to appear include Ravi Coltrane, Al Jarreau, George Duke and Earl Klugh.
“This week-long event is designed to encourage the interaction between Indian and American cultures," BET Jazz executive vice president and general manager Paxton Baker said in a prepared statement.
“The tour and its various components will also give us the opportunity to increase HIV-AIDS awareness, which has become a major social issue in India,” he added.
