BET Launches BET Awards Mobile Phone, Tablet App

BET will offer iPhone and iPad users the chance to interact with its live July 1 BET Awards show through a new App launched today.

The BET Awards 12 App for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android devices will offer hundreds of videos, thousands of photos and details on every nominee, winner and honoree over the show's past 12 years, according to network officials. In addition, users can predict the order of the performers before the show starts through the App's The Lineup co-viewing experience. Users with the most correct guesses will be entered to win unique prizes including a celebrity gift bag, autographed t-shirts and the Official BET Awards 12 microphone.

Also, the BET Awards App will feature scorecard updates from the live show, which honors the best performances in music, sports, TV and film.

During the show, BET will present Civil Rights Activist and MSNBC talk show host Rev. Dr. Al Sharpton with its Humanitarian Award, said BET officials.

Sharpton will be honored with the award, presented by State Farm for his unwavering commitment to political activism and social reform over the last five decades, according to the network. Sharpton joins such previous Humanitarian Award winners as Steve Harvey, John Legend, Alicia Keys, Wyclef Jean, Quincy Jones, Don Cheadle, Harry Belafonte, Denzel Washington, Pauletta Washington, Danny Glover, Magic Johnson and Muhammad Ali.
