BET to Lay Off 50 in Restructuring

Washington-Black Entertainment Television will lay off about 50 employees in its network-operations division as part of an overall restructuring.

The cuts are a result of technological upgrades to digital and the network's decision to move the production of its music-based programming to New York later this year.

"Sometimes there can be casualties of technology and business change, even when they are positive for the company in the long term," BET Holdings II Inc. president Debra Lee said in a prepared statement.
