BET News boosted its pop-culture know-how Friday.
Black Entertainment Television said former Cable News Network pop-culture correspondent Toure, former The Source editor in chief Selwyn Hinds and writer and filmmaker Nelson George have joined the BET News staff.
As for the roles for the Brooklyn-based trio of new additions:
• Toure will be a host, writer and consulting producer, including on specialized programming such as the recent BET 25th Anniversary Post-Show;
• Hinds will be interim executive producer for daily BET News briefs, periodic BET News specials and the network’s soon-to-launch Sunday newsmagazine show; and
• George will be consulting producer on all BET News and public-affairs programs.
“Individually, these guys raise the level of the game at any news organization,” BET president of entertainment Reginald Hudlin said in a prepared statement. “Together, it's enough intellectual firepower to level a city. And we're just getting started.”
