BET Sets Coverage Of King Memorial Dedication

BET Networks will provide live coverage of the Aug. 28 unveiling of the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial as part of a daylong programming schedule honoring the civil rights leader.

BET and Centric will air MLK Memorial Dedication With President Obama live and commercial free at 12 noon on the 28th, according to network officials -- part of several original specials airing throughout the day.

Later that evening BET will debut Alpha Man: The Brotherhood of MLK, a news special that traces the lineage of King's role in the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; and Michelle Obama On A Mission: Impact Africa, which chronicles the First Lady's historic visit to Africa.

"BET Networks is truly honored to be a partner with the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation and support such an important moment for our country, and especially for African-Americans," said Debra Lee, chairman and CEO of BET Networks in a statement. "We are proud to honor his legacy and dedicate an entire day to this on BET and Centric."
