Beta Research announced the results of its 2006 Digital Cable Subscriber Study Wednesday.
The study was conducted in July from a national sample of 3,287 digital-cable subscribers from 32 cable systems.
Among its findings:
• Favorite digital basic networks among adults: Lifetime Movie Network (32%); National Geographic Channel (31%); Fox Movie Channel (25%); Biography Channel (20%); BBC America and Discovery Health Channel (17%); WE tv and ESPN Classic (16%); DIY, ESPNews and History Channel International (14%); and Discovery Times Channel, The Independent Film Channel and Science Channel (13%).
• Men 18-plus went with NGC, ESPN Classic, Fox Movie, ESPNews and BBCA; women 18-plus chose LMN, WE, NGC, Fox Movie and Discovery Health; and teens 12-17 picked MTV Hits, MTV2, Nicktoons, MTV Jams, VH1 Classic and Fox Movie.
• In terms of viewers being “very satisfied” with digital basic networks, PBS Kids Sprout and SOAPnet topped the list at 60%, followed by: Music Choice (59%); ESPNews, History International and Weatherscan (58%); Discovery Health, NGC, Noggin and Science (57%); and MTV Jams and The N (56%).
• Finally, as far as average perceived value among viewers, NFL Network was tops, followed by MTV Jams, CSTV, Music Choice, ESPNews, SOAPnet and Sprout.
