BigBand Upgrades BMR Software

BigBand Networks released a software upgrade for its Broadband Multimedia Routers that allows each to process the more than 100 high-definition video streams and insert ads in more than 150 HD programs simultaneously.

The company's Broadcast Video Services Software 3.0 upgrade increases the BMR's HD stream capacity by 140% and HD ad splicing capacity by 150%, according to BigBand.

More than 200 service providers worldwide use the BMR, including nine of the top 10 cable operators in the U.S. and about 60 customers in China, including Gehua and Jiangsu Cable, according to BigBand. The BMR, which provides splicing, clamping and rate shaping functions, is deployed in more than 4,000 installations worldwide.

Separately, BigBand earlier this month announced several excutive changes, including the departure of COO David Heard, CFO Ravi Narula and sales chief Sean Rooney, which the company said were part of efforts to increase customer focus and respond to market opportunities.
