BigBand Networks expanded the functionality of its Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR), making it compatible with TVWorks' set-top client and other elements.
TVWorks is a joint venture between Comcast and Cox Communications aimed at developing next-generation interactive cable technology and services.
BigBand said its BMR can now handle insertion of applications such as interactive advertising, TV-based electronic commerce and interactive programming based on Cable Television Laboratories' enhanced-TV specifications.
In addition to TVWorks' set-top client, BigBand’s gear can communicate with ad servers and set-tops from multiple vendors to deliver interactive-TV programming to subscribers.
“TVWorks is leading the effort to standardize the interactive-application environment for U.S. cable operators,” TVWorks applications-division president Irv Kalick said in a prepared statement. “Through our partnerships with companies such as BigBand, we are making this promise a reality for cable operators, content providers and advertisers.”
