The Biography Channel will launch three new series, as well as a new marketing initiative designed to boost awareness of the network, network executives said Monday.
The new series slated for the digital channel include The Star Treatment, which profiles people who cater to celebrities; Star Closeup, providing up-close and personal profiles of A-list celebrities; and Kings & Queens, which profiles 12 of England's most famous and notorious monarchs.
"These entertaining programs provide an unexpected glimpse behind the scenes of the day-to-day life of the entertainment world and candid interviews with some of today's celebrities," network senior vice president and general manager Tom Heymann said in a prepared statement.
"They build on the channel's promise to be the destination for all kinds of fascinating lives and support the promise of distinctive programming for digital cable," he added.
To promote the new premieres, the network will brand its Friday-night primetime lineup "Star Central Fridays" to highlight the new skeins.
In addition, Biography has completed an agreement with comedian Martin Short to create improvisational short films parodying pop-culture icons.
