BlackArrow, a vendor of advanced advertising systems for video-on-demand, confirmed the hiring of Joe Matarese -- formerly head of Arris's VOD group -- as chief technology officer, and announced the hiring of two other executives.

In addition to Matarese, BlackArrow has hired Tricia Iboshi, previously with online-video management provider KIT Digital, as senior vice president of client services and operations; and Dean McCormick, co-founder of Mix Media, as vice president of advertising solutions to strategy and business development.

"The ability to successfully monetize television content is the lever that will ultimately drive the market success of multiplatform viewing," BlackArrow CEO Dean Denhart said in a statement. "Joe, Tricia and Dean collectively have the advanced advertising expertise and the diversity of platform experience required to drive viewer engagement and new revenue across multiple devices for service providers, programmers and advertisers."

Matarese joined Arris in 2007 with Arris's $730 million acquisition of VOD systems supplier C-COR, where he was senior vice president of global advanced technology. Matarese previously was with VOD vendor nCube, which C-COR bought in 2004. Light Reading reported Materese's move to BlackArrow earlier this month.

Iboshi most recently was senior vice president of sales at KIT Digital, which recently acquired the assets of hybrid broadcast-broadband video startup Sezmi. She also has held senior sales positions with KickApps and Comcast's thePlatform subsidiary. Iboshi had been co-founder and vice president of business development for RocketVox, which thePlatform acquired in 2001.

McCormick was co-founder of Mix Media, an advertising sales and marketing services company representing advanced TV networks and digital entertainment properties, and prior to that was executive vice president of interactive strategy and business development at VOD content provider Havoc Television.

BlackArrow's customers include Comcast, which has widely deployed its dynamic ad-insertion system for VOD. Investors in San Jose, Calif.-based BlackArrow include Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cisco Systems, Motorola Mobility, Intel and NDS.
