BlackArrow Recruits Arris's Matarese As CTO

Video-on-demand advertising vendor BlackArrow has hired Joe Matarese, vice president and general manager of Arris's on-demand group, as chief technology officer.

Light Reading reported Materese's move Friday.

BlackArrow declined to comment. A source familiar with the company confirmed the report.

Arris spokesman Alex Swan confirmed that Matarese was leaving the company to join BlackArrow and said the company has no current plans to name an executive to replace him. "Arris has deep expertise in both the video distribution side and advanced advertising side of VOD," Swan said.

BlackArrow customers include Comcast, which has widely deployed its dynamic ad-insertion system for VOD. Investors in San Jose, Calif.-based BlackArrow include Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cisco Systems, Motorola Mobility, Intel and NDS.

Matarese joined Arris in 2007 with Arris's $730 million acquisition of VOD systems supplier C-COR, where he was senior vice president of global advanced technology. Matarese previously was with VOD vendor nCube, which C-COR bought in 2004.
